Mighty Mystic (birth name Kevin Mark Holness) was born in the farming community of Goshen (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) in 1980. He began his musical journey by taking an interest in his native island’s music and as a child, he’d sing the latest tunes and imitate popular reggae musicians. In 1989, his family relocated to Boston and a few years later, Kevin’s brother introduced to him to the local hip hop scene. Kevin started to get comfortable with performing by tagging along with his brother to every local event and showcasing his reggae talent. He adopted the nickname his father gave him (Mystic) as his stage name (the area in Boston where Kevin grew up is also called Mystic) and he’d already developed a dedicated fan base by the time he was 20. He developed a style of reggae he calls Hard Roots and it’s a blend of reggae with hip hop and rock. He made a breakthrough in 2006 with his single Riding On the Clouds and it got heavy radio play all over the US East coast.
