The Mayor’s Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs, with the support of the DC Chinese Film Festival, will host a movie screening event at Landmark Theaters E Street Cinema on Thursday, September 27, 2018 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.
This event is free and open to the public.
We will be screening Havana Divas, a documentary film about Caridad Amaran and Georgina Wong, two childhood friends who grew up in Havana’s Chinatown and learned the art of Cantonese opera at a young age. They became stage sisters for over a decade until their lives were changed by the 1959s Cuban revolution. After retirement and well into their sixties, the two reunite and once again spark their dream to perform Cantonese opera on the stage.
