First Fridays: AfroBeat Edition

  • Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture 515 Malcolm X Boulevard New York, NY, 10037 United States (map)

Join us for our popular monthly social gathering, with live music, signature drinks, and an opportunity to network with others in the Schomburg community. In November, we’re celebrating the rich sounds of Afro-Beat music, created by Fela Ransome Kuti!

Our host for the night will be Dhalimu, with DJ Birane & DJ Don from the Muoka Mills Experience spinning Afro Beat tracks in our Langston Hughes Lobby. We will also have a musical performance from Teemanay aka Young Iconis, one of New York finest AfroBeats artists from Nigeria, who will perform songs from his debut soon-to-be released EP.

With our extended hours, guests are invited to check out our current exhibitions Black Power!Syncretic Vibrations and InHarlem Firelei Báez: Joy out of Fire. You'll also be able to sign up for a Schomburg membership, become a Schomburg volunteer, and visit the Schomburg Shop—while networking and dancing the night away!

Thanks to our community partner, Walker International Communications Group (WICG) that provides consultation to arts organizations, performing arts, visual arts, dance companies, non-profit groups, Broadway and Off Broadway productions. WICG will be onsite with free gifts and information on upcoming Broadway Productions.
